Content Idea: I Haven’t Gotten a Speeding Ticket in a While, so I Bought a Red Car

Robin's red convertible

I bought the car of my dreams last night–a 2-seater bright red convertible. It’s the most impractical car you can imagine, other than it has a big trunk and a cup holder. I love it. I’ve wanted this exact car since I was 21 years old, and I’ve finally gotten it.

When we were shopping for the car, many people said, “Don’t buy a red car. Red cars get speeding tickets.” Or, “You’ll get in more accidents.” Or, the bearers of good tidings would say, “Red cars get stolen more often.” Lovely.

But I wanted red. I wanted a happy car. I didn’t want just any shade of red. I wanted the brightest red you could find. That’s exactly what I got. You can’t miss this car.

(Hang in there with me. This post DOES have an important message!)

So, being the Internet researcher that I am, I hopped on over to my friendly search engine and did some research. It’s all a mythan urban legend.

When we bought car insurance for my car, the agent didn’t ask what color the car was. He knew my driving record (I hesitate to say I’ve never had a wreck), and he knows the type of car. The color of car didn’t matter.

Interestingly enough, on the way to get the car (1 1/2 hour drive), we saw several people pulled over, and we saw one accident. None involved a red car. I’ll pose the question to you: do you see more red cars pulled over getting speeding tickets?

Who cares about all of this, and what does this have to do with YOU?

What myths are there in your industry? What so-called “facts” can you dispel? Create pages of Web site content surrounding those myths.

In the SEO industry, there are tons of myths, such as putting keywords in comment tags will count toward relevancy/rankings in the search engine results (MYTH). The best keyword density for Google is 3-5% (MYTH). Reciprocal linking is the ideal way to build your link popularity (MYTH). Or, my personal favorite, the only way to get top rankings in the search engines for highly popular keywords is to spam. (Can you spell M*Y*T*H?)

People think that diabetics can never eat sugar (MYTH).

Virtually all industries have myths. I gave you one for the automotive industry, one for the medical industry, and several for the SEO industry. What about YOUR industry? You know your industry better than anyone else. Start creating content that dispels those myths.

Do your research. Prove that you know what you’re talking about. People will link to proof.

Linking is a good thing. Have I ever mentioned that before? I’m sure I have. ;)

Get busy with that content! I’ll be out burning gas in my red convertible (and my totally messed up hair), and I’ll let you know if I get any speeding tickets!

Robin,
Congrats! I just have one question? When do I get to drive it? LOL…
Best,
Matthew

Any time I have the car when I see you, you can drive it, Matt! This car is made to make you smile!

Guess who’s NOT going to drive it?? :) Guess who wrecked my other car, which put me in the car market?

But that’s all in the past. I’m finally living MY life, just like I should have been doing 8 years ago (or at least I’m trying). I’m practicing what I’m preaching here, or doing everything I can to do so.

I can hardly wait to see you again, dear friend. I hope you’re feeling better. You’re such a special person and friend. You’ll take Philly like a storm!

Robin
